EVENT REVIEW: Shlohmo at the Hoxton April 2015

If you don’t know who Shlohmo is then god damn you must be Hodor. Shlohmo is a producer from LA and is currently on a headlining tour with the release of his newest album Dark Red. He blessed Toronto with his presence at The Hoxton last night, hitting the stage around 1 am. The venue was packed and the crowd was white, black, and Asian. Everybody loves Shlohmo.

NICK MELONS was the official opening act for the night. He also happens to be one of Shlohmo’s oldest friends. Mixing in some trap and hip hop, he gave the crowd little spurts of supersonic energy, but eventually took them back to their mellow state, preparing them for what is to come.

Christina?? There was an awkward waiting period between Nick + Shlohmo, where Genie in a bottle by Christina Aguilera was playing while the band set up. No one seemed to know how to feel about. It was like waking up in the middle of the night with no pants on.

Finally, Shlohmo live. Have you ever seen anything like it?. Live electronic band mixed with a dose of shoegaze and a gothic feel that you enjoy succumbing to. A melancholic guitar that wales into your soul and encompasses you with the deep, yet cold love of Metal.

It makes you feel like you are the main character in a movie who is looking out the window of a car on a rainy day, contemplating. Shlohmo live makes every cell in your body feel high. Shlohmo is like the oxycoton of live music. Excited to host him again in, as he calls it, 'The six'.
